This weekend will see virtual monster hunters around the world head out with their mobile phones to try and catch some rare beasts in the biggest day in the Pokémon GO calendar.

Pokémon GO Fest 2024 takes place over two days over the Jubilee long weekend, on Saturday, June 4, and Sunday, June 5.

It’s been eight years since millions of gamers downloaded the Pokémon GO app onto their mobile phone and set out to capture fantastical creatures like Bulbasaur, Charmander and Pidgey.

And, while it no longer hits the headlines as it did in its early days, there is still a huge global community of players – including several Pokémon groups based in Scotland - particularly in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Here’s what you need to know about this year’s celebration of the pocket monster.

How can I join in the fun of Pokémon GO Fest 2024?

If you have the Pokémon GO app on your phone then you don’t need to do anything - just open your app during festival hours.

Where should I play Pokémon GO Fest 2024?

You can enjoy Pokémon GO Fest 2024 anywhere but, to gain access to the most number of spawns, Pokestops and gyms you are best to play in a city - ideally in a park so you can walk around without worrying about traffic.

In Edinburgh Princes Street Gardens and the Royal Botanic Gardens are popular spots.

Meanwhile, in Glasgow the traditional sport to play is Glasgow Green, but that won’t be possible this year due to a clash with the TRNSMT Music Festival - meaning many Pokehunters will head to Kelvingrove Park instead.
