Muriel Gray hits out at '˜repugnant' anti-abortion picket

Scots author Muriel Gray has lashed out at anti-abortion campaigners who plan to picket a Scottish hospital.

The 57-year old writer and broadcaster called the protests “repugnant intimidation”.

She made the comments after it was revealed the US style protests were due to be held 12 hours a day outside Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in February and March.

A branch of the 40 Days For Life group has announced it will maintain a “prayer vigil” between 8am and 8pm for 40 days over Lent. Matt Britton, the group’s international chairman, is expected to visit Scotland to take part.

But Ms Gray, 57, wrote on Twitter: “The rightful place for peaceful protest is outside parliament.

“Picketing hospitals is repugnant intimidation.

“They have every right, along with all citizens, to protest. But the women are not law makers and they are vulnerable.

“Nobody ever, ever, should be allowed to picket hospitals on any cause. Everyone has a story. Take it to the law makers”

Pam G replied: “Agree completely. Turning up at hospital is to shame & intimidate women into turning back. It’s disgusting.”

Ms Gray is a renowned broadcaster and writer of best-selling horror novels, one of which was described by Stephen King as “scary and unputdownable”.
