IT’S A far cry from the tracksuits and trainers she wears in her day job as one of Scotland’s best-known tennis coaches.

Judy Murray has unveiled a new clothing collection which uses the commemorative tartan for the Ryder Cup.

The striking outfit, known as a “tartan twosie”, used the official custom-made design for golf’s flagship tournament, which will be held at Gleneagles later this month.

The endorsement by Ms Murray looks set to provide a welcome boost for the small Perth boutique which designed the outfit.

It also signals that the 55-year-old is enjoying an increasingly public profile after signing up to the massively popular BBC show Strictly Come Dancing.

Promotional photographs of Ms Murray modelling the new range show her in a relaxed mood at Cromlix House, the hotel owned by her younger son, Wimbledon winner Andy.

In one image, she strikes a classic pose by a window, while in another she is seen smiling as she places her hands on a snooker table.

The two-piece outfit features the tartan created for the biennial sporting spectacle by Lochcarron of Scotland, the Selkirk-based weaving mill founded in 1947 by Morris Buchanan.

To mark Scotland hosting the Ryder Cup for only the second time in the event’s history – and for the first time in more than 40 years – the tartan is inspired by the country’s landscape.

Unveiled last year, it features shades of blue and gold to reflect the core colours of the European flag, with flashes of blue and white to hint at elements of the saltire.

The outfit sported by Ms Murray is part of an exclusive bespoke ladies’ collection made by Blues & Browns, a boutique located a short golf-buggy ride from Gleneagles.

Kairen Ruse, the designer
behind the Perth-based store, said having her work showcased on a global stage made for a special moment.

“As Scotland is on the world stage in September, it is important we show our finest talents and products,” the 63-year-old said. “We’re thrilled to be using the official Ryder Cup tartan designed by Lochcarron and of course we’re delighted that one of our renowned customers will be sporting her bespoke tartan twosie.”

Other bespoke garments available include a pair of Ryder Cup tartan shoes.

It is not the first time Ms Murray has showcased a Blues & Browns clothing range. Last December the boutique was thrown into the spotlight after Ms Murray wore one of its
designs in front of four million television viewers.

Social media users complimented Ms Murray on the outfit – another tartan two-piece – she wore at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards ceremony.

Anthony Stennet, group head of sales and marketing at
Lochcarron of Scotland, said: “By creating a tartan that reflects the spirit of competition and the landscape of Scotland, we are paying homage to golf’s Scottish roots.

“As the 2014 Ryder Cup unfolds, there will be flashes of the iconic, official tartan.”

The Ryder Cup tartan was designed with input from Paul McGinley, the captain of the
European team hoping for success at Gleneagles.
