Steve Reich + is an exciting live concert experience which will take you through an eclectic mix of musical styles – with minimalism and captivating rhythms at the heart of the programme.

Edinburgh-born international percussion soloist Colin Currie will direct an evening of propulsive rhythm and calming contemplation. The event also features DJ Dolphin Boy, alongside world-class musicians from the chamber and will be performed in both Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The concerts invite audiences to take a deep-dive into the minimalist genre, from the calming contemplation and propulsive rhythms of Steve Reich to the jazz-and-blues infused music of post-minimalist Louis Andriessen, plus works by Arvo Pärt and Julia Wolfe.

Reich’s luminous Pulse is one of the composer’s most reflective works, while Radio Re-write reworks two iconic songs by rock band Radiohead. Legendary Dutch composer Louis Andriessen wrote his concerto Tapdance especially for Currie in 2013, while Julia Wolfe tackles globalisation in her high-energy Fuel, and Arvo Pärt summons stillness in his meditative Fratres.

There will be two concerts, the first takes place on Thursday, November 9 at 7.30pm at The Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh and the second at City Halls, Glasgow on Friday, November 10 at 7.30pm.
