Video: Exclusive preview of Scottish Ballet’s 5 Tangos

Exclusive to Scotsman.com, take a look at Scottish Ballet’s first piece to be commissioned by new artistic director Christopher Hampson.

Part of the Autumn 2012 season triple bill, alongside Martin Lawrance’s Run For It and William Forsythe’s Workwithinwork, 5 Tangos, choreographed by Hans van Manen, will premiere at Glasgow’s Theatre Royal on 4 October. The Autumn 2012 Season will be the first under the artistic directorship of Christopher Hampson, following Ashley Page’s departure, and also Scottish Ballet’s first triple bill season.

Van Manen’s 5 Tangos combines classical ballet with the dramatic flourishes of the tango and was originally created for the Netherlands’ Het Nationale Ballet, with music by Astor Piazzolla, an Argentine tango composer celebrated for revolutionising traditional tango by introducing elements of jazz and classical music.
