Under the Radar: Quiet Houses

Hannah Elliott and Jamie Stewart met at school in Edinburgh, but although they were in the same music class, her interest lay in classical music while he aspired to be “the next Jimmy Page”. However, when both moved to Manchester to study at different institutions, they reconvened and this time started writing songs under the name Quiet Houses.

Since 2018 they have released several singles which have found well-deserved attention from BBC presenters Ryan Paul and Tom Robinson, thanks to a winning combination of Elliot’s voice, gentle instrumentation and a droll lyrical style which is fast becoming the duo’s trademark. On their latest song, Pool, which came out on Friday, they even manage to create a witty narrative around accompanying an alcoholic father on his drinking expeditions.

Quiet Houses have spent the past few months back in Edinburgh working on an album for the new year which could well be a musical highlight of 2021. In the meantime, get a flavour of their live performances at www.facebook.com/QuietHousesUK
