TV signing another score for sporting families

Stefani Dailly, 24, joins the news programme North Tonight in Aberdeen, having previously worked as a trainee reporter and deputy head of news at Radio Tay. In an attempt to strengthen its sports and news teams, Grampian TV has recruited Dailly on sport and Iain Ramage on news in advance of the station relocating to a new headquarters in Tullos in Aberdeen that will house the latest desk-top editing technology and digital newsroom.

Born and brought up in Dundee, Dailly studied English at Dundee University before moving into the media and sports reporting.

She said: "I have wanted to go into broadcasting since I was young.

"This position will be a real challenge as it will be the first time away from my roots and I am looking forward to progressing my career with Grampian Television."

Her brother Christian, 29, is currently a defender at West Ham and established himself at Dundee United before a transfer to Derby County in 1996.

He moved in the summer of 1998 to Blackburn Rovers before joining West Ham. He holds the current Scottish record of 34 under-21 caps and has 41 caps for senior games.

The presenter attributes her love of football to following her brother’s sporting career and said: "Being one of two girls born into a football-mad household, I had little choice but to have more than a little interest in sport. I have grown up with football all around me and cannot escape it. I am a big football fan."

She added: "When Christian turned professional at 16, I went to every single match, home and away. But I have to admit I’m more a supporter than a player and prefer to watch from the stands.

"I have supported all of Christian’s teams, including his current team, West Ham. And we will all be at Hampden for the Scotland game against Iceland of course."

North Tonight was first presented in 1980 by John Duncanson and Selina Scott.
