Theatre review: Medea Dream

The capable all-female cast in this 'bourgeois musical' version of the Medea legend work hard to immerse us in the world of Greek tragedy.

Star rating: **

Venue: Silk (Venue 444)

But there’s no getting away from it – we are on the bare dance floor of a cold nightclub lit by one unforgiving spotlight at the wrong time of day for generating any sort of atmosphere – never mind the testosterone-fuelled ancient warrior culture from which Medea is determined to liberate her impressionable son, using her elemental sorcery and modern pop song. Consequently, the performance comes across like a dress rehearsal before all the trimmings have been added.

Until 27 August. Today 1:20pm.
