Theatre review: The Lizards

A boy band on the slide are backstage and falling apart in the run-up to a festival show they are not sure they should be playing, cramming reckless hedonism, childish insecurities, awkward declarations of love and other band bombshells into their pre-gig ritual, while being harangued by a chippy manager who is to encouraging pep talks what Donald Trump is to diplomacy.

Star rating: **

Venue: theSpace on the Mile (Venue 39)

Despite a staunch defence of boy bands through the ages by the group’s joker figure, The Lizards is as clichéd as the age-old teen pop formula, and played out as an indulgent psychodrama when it could have made an entertaining farce.

Until 20 August. Today 11:05am.
