Theatre review: Isabel(le)

Heartfelt but slight, this autobiographical affair is writer/co-star EmmaLeigh Isabelle Rivera's tribute to her redoubtable great-grandmother, played by Janice Isabel Jackson.

Rating: **

Venue: Greenside @ Infirmary Street (Venue 236)

A brothel owner, proto-feminist and nude sunbather, Isabel was a character. She taught Emma to think for herself and renounce hypocrisy. Good for her. But I never felt surprised by this saga. Curiously rote when it strives for emotion.
