Theatre review: Dame Nature '“ The Magnificent Bearded Lady

Writer/performer Tim Bell has lucked out with his Fringe venue for this backstage tale from the days of the travelling circus sideshows.

Star rating: **

Venue: Assembly George Square Theatre (Venue 8)

The Omnitorium, pitched behind George Square Theatre, is a gem of a tented venue, smaller than the Spiegeltents, a bit frayed round the edges and the ideal place for this tears-of-a-freak story to unfold.

It does so very haltingly, with several tangents into the pre-performance rituals of our hostess, the bearded lady, who is past her bristly best, with only a cockatiel called Stephen (“with a ph”) for company.

Until 29 August. Today 3pm.
