Stone Roses to unveil first new single in 20 years

ICONIC Manchester band The Stone Roses are to unveil their first new music since 1996 tonight.

A single track will be streamed online from 8pm this evening.

The group, fronted by Ian Brown, reformed for a series of gigs in 2012 after splitting in acrimonious circumstances in the mid-’90s.

The four-piece previously announced a series of performances this summer, including a headlining appearence at T in the Park.

A series of adverts with the band’s familiar lemon motif appeared around Manchester on Tuesday, prompting speculation on social media that an important announcement was imminent.

Rumours the band were working on a third studio album were first reported earlier this year.

Recent tabloid reports suggested the group’s third album would arrive this summer to coincide with upcoming live dates, which include four headline shows at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium.

It is more than 20 years since they released their last studio album, Second Coming, in 1994, the follow-up to their eponymous 1989 debut.
