Songwriter Leven dies

ONE of Scotland’s most enduring singer-songwriters has lost a fight with cancer after a career spanning more than four decades.

Former punk rocker Jackie Leven, who battled drink and drug problems before making a comeback in the 1990s as a solo rock and folk artist, died on Monday night, aged 61.

The Fife-born singer, who was a founder member of the punk band Doll by Doll, famously wrote more than 400 songs and released 15 solo albums, one of which, Mystery of Love, was rated one of the 100 best albums of all time by Q magazine.
