Scottish band The Bathers’ perform entire album in live online gig from Fife hotel

A Fife hotel which staged one of the last gigs in Scotland before lockdown is hosting a live online show featuring Scottish band The Bathers on Friday.

The Woodside Hotel in Aberdour will welcome the band to its historic Clipper Room to perform their 1997 album Kelvingrove Baby in its entirety for the very first time.

Tickets to watch the online gig have already been snapped up by fans from as far away as America, Germany and Japan.

The Woodside has carved out a name for itself as an intimate live venue, and hosted the Cash Back In Fife festival - a celebration of Johnny Cash’s links to Fife - just days before the country went into lockdown.

It featured a weekend of live music and chat from names such as Rab Noakes, Ian Rankin, and Fay Fife, and was hosted by Edinburgh-based singer songwriter Dean Owens.

Friday’s gig marks the first step on the return to hosting live music with a number of bands and singers scheduled to visit later this year.

John McTaggart, hotel owner and long-standing fan of the band, is looking forward to the sound of music ringing round the venue once more.

“We’d chatted back and forth during lockdown about doing a digital gig, and they loved the idea.

“It’s been rescheduled several times because of COVID restrictions on travel, and this will be the first time the band has been together in a year.

“The acoustics in the Clipper Room are incredible, and we’re looking forward to a great night.”

Active from 1985 tod 2001, The Bathers reformed in 2016.

The band has released seven albums, and August 2020 saw the vinyl re-issue of 'Lagoon Blues', 'Sunpowder' and 'Kelvingrove Baby' - but plans to tour to promote them were cancelled as a result of the pandemic.

Added John: “Everyone is really looking forward to it.

“Gigs are a labour of love for me - and I love this album. We are also doing a Q&A with the band afterwards.”

The Bathers’ gig starts at 7:45 with tickets £20.

Premium £40 tickets include an autographed copy of the deluxe 12" version of the Kelvingrove Baby album.
