SCOTLAND’S leading online community for Xbox gamers is to undergo a relaunch with the aim of enjoying a “breakthrough” year in 2014.

XBL Gamerhub, a site which allows players to meet and arrange online gaming sessions through its dedicated events system, has amassed over 10,000 users since going live four years ago.

Although Microsoft’s own Xbox Live system is widely regarded as one of the best online systems for multiplayer, it pits gamers together randomly.

XBL Gamerhub, however, allows players in Scotland and beyond to organise sessions based on geography and ability, as well as providing news and features.

In its four year existence, it has won praise from leading industry figures like Peter Molyneux and Dan Maher, and has one of the largest social media audiences of any Xbox community in the UK, with upwards of 6,000 Twitter followers and 5,000 likes on Facebook.

Ahead of the relaunch, planned for late January, its director, Gavin Divers, told Scotsman Games that the launch of the Xbox One offered XBL Gamerhub exciting opportunities to expand.

The firm is already part of the Xbox Community Network, which means Microsoft is on hand to offer help and support, as well as provide material and games for its coverage.

With closer relations being forged with the Redmond giant, the company will provide XBL Gamerhub with more exclusive content, and the site hopes to be represented on the Xbox One dashboard.

Divers, from Paisley, explained: “We’re aiming to get an app on the new Xbox dashboard and use the Xbox One features to our benefit when it comes to our event system. In the past members would post their custom gaming events on the site and go to the game, looking to see who was attending on the site, and inviting them to their lobby.

“Now, we can connect the site and Xbox like never before. Members can be in a game lobby and bring up our app to see who wants to play with them. This is one of the many exciting things we have planned for 2014.”
