Review: Peter Andre, HMV Picture House

PETER Andre thanked his loyal legion of fans for helping him through a turbulent period in his life on Saturday. The singer, currently on a 36-date UK tour, opened his heart midway through his 75-minute show.

"There's been lots of things written about me in the papers over the last eight months," he said. "Some true, some not, but nobody really knows what goes on behind closed doors. However, nothing gets me higher than being with my kids and with you guys. You've helped me keep my head up when things have been getting me down."

From the second Andre stepped on stage, the screams of 1,500 female fans just about raised the Picture House roof.

"How are you, Edinburgh? Ready to dance?" Andre quizzed on Out Of Control as dancers – dressed up as paparazzi – flashed their cameras at Andre's finely honed physique.

The crowd lapped it up and went bonkers during Andre's homage to Michael Jackson, which included the songs Human Nature and Man In The Mirror.

Several costume changes and a few raunchy dance routines later, Andre slowed things down with heart-tugging ballad Unconditional. Meanwhile, video footage of the star playing with his children – beamed out from a giant overhead screen – brought a collective "aww" from the crowd.

Then, just before bringing this high-energy show to an end with – yes, you guessed it – Mysterious Girl, Andre's management surprised him by bringing a big cake onstage to celebrate his 37th birthday. Everyone joined in to sing Happy Birthday, before Andre left the stage blowing kisses, promising to put on an even better show at the SECC in December.
