Professor Green headlines Mobo Awards in Glasgow

Rapper Professor Green will be among the performers at the 21st Mobo Awards tonight, organisers have announced.

It will be the MC’s third performance at the annual event after he claimed his first award in 2010 for best hip hop act.

The 32-year-old, who has achieved two top-three albums, said he was happy to be back in Glasgow for the awards and was looking forward to enjoying the city after the event.

Hosted by Melvin Odoom and his Kiss Breakfast Show co-host Rickie Haywood Williams, the ceremony is taking place in Glasgow’s SSE Hydro in the event’s fourth time in the city.

Other performers at this year’s event include three-time Mobo (Music of Black Origin) Award winner Craig David, who was first recognised at the Mobos when he clinched the best newcomer trophy in 2000.

The garage star is nominated for best male and best song for When The Bassline Drops.

Making their Mobo debut is Grammy Award-winning British classical dance-pop band Clean Bandit, who will be joined on stage with best newcomer nominee Anne-Marie.

Also taking to the stage will be Chase & Status and Laura Mvula.

Soul singer Mvula and grime music star Kano are leading the pack with nominations with four nods each.

They are both previous winners at the Mobos - the rapper took home the newcomer gong in 2005 and Mvula was named best female and best R&B/soul act in 2013.

Fresh from his Mercury Prize win, Skepta has picked up nominations for best male, best grime act and best album for Konnichiwa.

Skepta and Kano will face AJ Tracey, Chip and Stormzy in the grime category.

Beyonce, Drake, Justin Bieber, Kanye West and Rihanna are among the world’s biggest acts short-listed for the best international act gong.

The Mobo Awards celebrate and honour stars of any ethnicity who create and perform black music.

This year’s Paving The Way award will be given to songwriter and producer Ms Dynamite and Olympic champion boxer Nicola Adams.

The award is designed to celebrate individuals in any field ‘’punching above their weight’’ and creating a path for others to follow.

London, Liverpool and Leeds have previously hosted the event, which has been attended by more than 100,000 music fans since it was established by Kanya King in 1996.
