Preview: Vikings!, National Museum of Scotland

THE Vikings are coming! a major new exhibition of more than 500 objects, from the world-renowned collections of the Swedish History Museum in Stockholm goes on display at the National Museum of Scotland on Friday.

Vikings! brings together jewellery, weapon fragments, carvings, precious metals and household items at the Chambers Street museum, the only UK venue for an exhibition that reveals who the Vikings really were and creates a vivid picture of how they lived more than 1,000 years ago.

Fascinating objects, archaeological evidence, and hands-on displays make it an attraction not to miss, especially on Tuesday 22 February when it will be the focus of the latest RBS Museum Lates, Night of the Vikings.

As with previous Lates, the Vikings theme will be reflected in the entertainments and the audience will get into the spirit as well.

Between 7pm and 10.30pm that night, there will be a chance to come face to face with the museum’s resident Vikings - you can even pose for a photo with them.

Live music in the Grand Gallery will be provided by Edinburgh indie-folk band Broken Records and Shetland fiddle-player Chris Stoutt, who recently played on the soundtrack to the film Brave.

The event will also see the return of favourites such as the silent disco in the Imagine Gallery and pop-up bars in the Grand Gallery.

There are only 1,800 tickets avaialable for the event so get yours today to avoid dissapointment.
