Preview: Edinburgh acts at T in the Park

IT’S almost becoming something of a cliche to state that, after a fairly barren run, the Capital has finally stepped out of Glasgow’s musical shadow.

But there’s little doubt that the city’s music scene is in fine fettle at the moment. This year’s T in the Park line-up is testament to that, with half-a-dozen Edinburgh acts - none of which are strangers to the pages of The Guide - sharing the bill with star attractions like Snow Patrol, Kasabian and The Stone Roses.

After receiving glowing reviews for first album Fully Cocked, the hotly-tipped Bwani Junction have continued to move up in the world - literally - stopping off en route to Balado to play a rather unique gig on top of the Forth Rail Bridge earlier this week.

Following in their footsteps (by headlining the BBC Introducing Stage on Saturday this year, rather than climbing the bridge) will be teen popstrel Nina Nesbitt, already well on the way to stardom despite her tender years.

Another band flirting with the big-time are Blank Canvas, whose self-released debut single By The Fire has earned plays across the BBC national network. Recalling the heyday of Postcard Records, their angular, ambient punk is well worth searching out.

With its added twist of electronica, Edinburgh College of Art five-piece The Machine Room’s dreamy shoegaze pop is the perfect pre-Roses pick-me-up come Saturday evening. And speaking of art school alumni, make sure that the fantastic Django Django (Vincent Neff from Django Django, pictured right) top your ‘must-see at T’ list.

Responsibility for rounding-off the city’s contribution to Scotland’s biggest festival falls, rather fittingly, to electro-pop duo Capitals, who’ll be closing the T Break Stage on Sunday night.
