Pickpocket warning for Festival fans

POLICE are warning
Festival-goers to be on their guard against pickpockets as crowds flock to the Capital this
weekend.

With the Edinburgh International Festival now under way, the city’s population is expected to swell. However, police said there had only been a small number of thefts since the Fringe started last week.

Chief Inspector Gavin Philip, from Lothian and Borders Police, said: “The opening week of Edinburgh’s festival season has resulted in a relatively low level of criminal activity, with only a small number of thefts from in and around areas where festival activity is taking place.

“These included a number of incidents of pickpocketing, and an incident where a camera was stolen.

“Edinburgh remains a safe place to visit. Nevertheless, it is important that people take steps to protect themselves from falling victim to crime.”
