New Scottish music: Hugh Kelly

BY THE age of 18 Edinburgh songwriter Hugh Kelly was already a regular fixture on the busking and open mic scene, both in his native city and in Aberdeen, where he spent two years as a student.

After dropping out of his course and returning to the capital in the autumn, he set about recording his debut EP with David Whitmey, whose credits include performers such as Mika, The Wanted, The Saturdays and Sugababes. The resulting four tracks are released tomorrow, and while there might be scope for some overall lyrical development, the title song Give Me All Your Love certainly stands out. Already featured on numerous blogs and local radio stations, it is a moody number infused with a dark pop sound.

Overall it’s an impressive debut, which should pave the way to summer festival slots and provide a taste of the album scheduled for the end of the year. http://www.hughkellymusic.com/music
