Music review: The Blitz Sisters, The Free Sisters, Cowgate

A RECORDING of Neville Chamberlain’s speech booms out, followed by an air raid siren and the drone of aircraft engines, and the girls are there. Emma Kaye Hudson and Elizabeth Morrisey have obviously paid attention to detail.

From the Union flag draping the vintage microphones to the WAAF uniforms and seamed stockings, it’s a feast for the eyes.

It’s also a feast for the ears. Their perfectly-matched voices capture the sweet harmonies as they belt out songs by Vera Lynn, The Andrews Sisters and Gracie Fields.
