Morrissey cancels Edinburgh show due to ‘logistical problems’

Morrissey has cancelled all his UK and European tour dates in July, including the opening date in Edinburgh.

The management for the former Smiths frontman said the tour was cancelled because of “logistical problems”.

The singer had been due to play at the Usher Hall in the Capital on the 4 July. Tickets for the hotly anticipated event started from £60.

Morrissey also had shows scheduled for Manchester, Portsmouth and Reading during the month.

A statement shared on his official Facebook page said: “Due to logistical problems beyond our control, the UK/European Morrissey concerts scheduled for July will be postponed.

“We deeply regret any inconvenience to the fans and promise to reschedule UK and European dates as soon as possible.

“All original purchasers from official ticket outlets will have the full ticket fee refunded including booking fee to their credit/debit cards. Refunds from ticket agents will be actioned from midday on Monday July 2.”

The singer’s representatives thanked fans for their support and added that his world tour will continue in Mexico City on November 23.

The postponement follows the singer’s manager Peter Katsis criticising the organiser of an anti-racism party in Manchester, which had been intended to coincide with one of the concerts at Castlefield Bowl.

Campaigners claiming to be former fans of Morrissey, 59, are holding the event following comments he made in support of jailed EDL founder Tommy Robinson.

In a statement, Katsis accused the event’s organiser, Dave Haslam, of being an attention-seeker and claimed the move was “bullshit”.

Reacting to the postponement of Morrissey’s UK dates, Haslam said: “I sympathise with fans who made plans to see him, we know what it’s like to be let down by Morrissey.

“If dates are rescheduled, we’ll be happy once again to provide an alternative event in the city. One that counters Morrissey’s support for Tommy Robinson and the far-right.”

Haslam added that the event will go ahead as planned, despite the cancellation of the Morrissey shows.

The music journalist and former DJ at Manchester’s famed Hacienda nightclub also claimed that “low ticket sales are thought to have played a part” in the decision to postpone the live dates.

Katsis, of Deckstar Management, previously labelled Haslam a “has-been”, claimed he was never a Morrissey fan and accused him of having an agenda.
