Girls Aloud to pop into Playhouse on first tour

CHART-TOPPERS Girls Aloud are to visit the Capital as part of their first live tour.

The UK girl group will play Edinburgh Playhouse on May 14, as part of their 17-date What Will The Neighbours Say? Live 2005! tour.

The five-piece, Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Walsh and Cheryl Tweedy, have released a string of hits since winning the reality television show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, and have been compared to Blondie and The Spice Girls.

All seven of their singles have entered the top three, with two reaching No 1 including the double A-side Sound of the Underground/Stay Another Day which took the coveted Christmas No 1 spot two years ago.

"We’ve been itching to go on tour for a long time," said Walsh. "We decided to wait until we had two albums to perform before we took to the stage.

"The time is right now for us to give the fans a show they deserve. We’re all so excited."

A spokesman for the Edinburgh Playhouse said: "We are thrilled to be welcoming Girls Aloud, who are a major chart act to the Playhouse and it promises to be a great night. The backstage crew are particularly excited about welcoming the girls on stage."

Tickets for their Edinburgh concert cost 21 and will go on sale at 9am next Friday.
