Gaming Review: May’s Mysteries: The Secret of Dragonville

Featuring more than 270 puzzles involving logic, rhythm, mathematics and riddles, May’s Mysteries is a superb brainteaser set in a charming world full of secrecy and intrigue.

This colourful effort from developer V5 Play Studio is perfect for fans of the Professor Layton series, or indeed anyone who likes having their brain pushed to the limit.

After their balloon crashes in a freak storm, May and her brother Tery find themselves in Dragonville, a creepy town where nothing is what it seems and all the children appear to have vanished. After getting separated from Tery, it’s up to you to help May track him down and solve the many mysteries of the town.

Moving around is simple, and along the way you encounter various characters or obstacles, each bringing a new puzzle to the mix. For example, a corridor is blocked by a piranha tank and two short pieces of wood. Through smart rotation and overlapping the blocks correctly, May can create a makeshift bridge across.

Other conundrums task you with replicating musical scores, solving riddles and scouring the environment for objects. As enjoyable as it is entertaining, this is a perfect brain teaser for adults, and a great way for you to interact with your young ones and help them learn as they play.

With colourful cartoon interludes, a whimsical score and intuitive touch controls, May’s Mysteries is another superb puzzle game on Nintendo DS.
