Game review: Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy

Celebrating its silver jubilee, the Final Fantasy franchise has played host to some truly exceptional music, so it makes sense for developer Square-Enix to collate the best compositions in this charming rhythm-action game.

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy

£39.99, Nintendo 3DS

Delivering songs from all 13 core Final Fantasy titles, each game is broken down into battle music, field music and cut scene music. Each of the three variants plays differently. Battle stages see your squad fighting monsters, field music has your leader journeying across the game world, hitting notes as they go, while cut scene tunes play a movie from the corresponding game over musical prompts on the touch screen.

Aside from playing single songs, you can tackle Chaos Shrine mode, which gives you 99 crushing challenges, with tons of loot to be won.
