Dundee beats rival cities to appear on Monopoly board

DUNDEE has won a nationwide contest to become the latest location in Scotland to be celebrated in a special edition of one of the world’s most popular family board games.

The “City of Discovery” is to get its own official Monopoly board after beating ten other Scottish cities and towns, including Stirling, Perth and St Andrews.

The landmarks on the board game will include the City Chambers, RRS Discovery and Dens Park and Tannadice, the home grounds of the city’s rival football teams, Dundee and Dundee United.

Mark Hauser, the licensing director at Winning Moves, the manufacturer of the new board game, said: “We are delighted to be making this exciting announcement that Dundee is passing Go. To have come ahead of ten other cities and towns across the whole of Scotland is a magnificent achievement.”

A spokesman for Winning Moves added: “Before any dice can be rolled, the game’s makers will first be consulting Dundonians as to which city property landmarks should be selected to swap places with the famous London sites and sights.”

Dundee’s lord provost John Letford said: “We are delighted that Dundee is to get its own version of Monopoly and I am sure there will be an enthusiastic response to the call to nominate local landmarks for the game.”
