Dance review: Robertson’s Crusoe, Zoo Southside (Venue 82), Edinburgh

GRANT Robertson is a talented character actor, who knows how to give those characters the right lines to say. But this one-man show, which Robertson wrote, designed and now performs, fails to play to those strengths.

Robertson’s Crusoe

Zoo Southside (venue 82)

Star rating: * *

Beneath four corner lights, he becomes different men with different problems. One has gone through an unwanted divorce, another is slowly being ravaged by Alzheimer’s.

The intimate moments are engaging. The rest of the time, Robertson’s heavy emphasis on mime work that is neither clear nor particularly interesting to watch, keeps us locked out.
