Dance, physical theatre & circus: Feel-Link

There's an authenticity to the work dancers Airida Gudaitė and Laurynas Žakevičius produce on stage, that few other performers could hope to replicate.

Star rating: ***

Venue: ZOO Southside (Venue 82)

The pair first met on a Lithuanian television dance contest and went on to form their own company, Dance Theatre Low Air in 2012. Then, last August, they married.

So when Gudaitė and Žakevičius use their bodies to act out the various highs and lows of a loving relationship, from passion and contentment through to jealousy and insecurity, you know they’ve been there and done that.

Both are adept at contemporary dance and street dance, fusing the two forms here with no rough edges. Žakevičius in particular is a powerful presence when he drops breakdance holds and lifts into the choreography with apparent ease. Elsewhere, there is a tenderness and sensuality which echoes their personal partnership, and a tight slickness born out of their professional union. In the background, a recording of Nina Simone singing Feelings adds an extra layer to the emotions laid bare on stage.

Until 20 August. Today 12:10pm.
