Plockton Regatta
Plockton, Ross-shire, until 7 August
The residents of Plockton have been holding their annual regatta since 1933. Today's events include the Matheson Cup, a long-distance race for local boats, the Third Ulluva Cup and Airighrishaig Cup for Centreboards and the Frithard Trophy for yachts. There's a packed programme, culminating in a ceilidh on Friday evening and the Ragamuffin Children's Race on Saturday morning. Don't worry if you can't make it this year - a recently instigated boatbuilding course at Plockton High School means that the regatta should be in rude health for another 77 years at least.

The Edinburgh Art Festival
Various venues, Edinburgh, today until 5 September
There's so much going on at this year's Edinburgh Art Festival it can be a bit overwhelming, but the good news is you've got until 5 September to fit it all in. The main talking points are bound to be the two big summer blockbusters laid on by the National Galleries of Scotland: Impressionist Gardens at the National Gallery Complex on the Mound and Another World, the surrealist show at the Dean, but keep an eye out for the EAF's eight new commissions at various venues throughout the city.

Karate Kid (PG)
Poor little Jaden Smith. As the pampered son of Will and Jada, he is destined to be dogged by accusations of nepotism at every turn. His mom and pop must surely know this, yet that didn't stop them from co-producing a remake of the 1984 crowd-pleaser The Karate Kid with... yeah, you guessed it, Jaden in the title role. In a slight change to the original, the poor wee lamb plays Dre Parker, a 12-year-old yoot who starts getting bullied when his family moves from Detroit to Beijing. Enter martial arts master Mr Han (Jackie Chan) who takes the hapless youngster under his wing and trains him up for a climactic clash with his playground nemesis.
