Well, back home in Barrow-in-Furness, anyway. Here in the big city you’d look at him, a friendly soul in a checked shirt, and think: bear. He’s here in the big city to tell a few tales of how he came late to coming out, a decade ago at 36; of what life was like before that, when people assumed he hadn’t met the right girl; and how life is today as a fully realised gay man, complete with boyfriend.
Said boyfriend is currently working in Dubai, but Peers keeps in touch by FaceTime. Sometimes his eyes veer away from Peers, so he regains his attention by flashing him... a shot of a “wrongly” stacked dishwasher. Bad gay!
Or is he? That’s the question that loosely links a thoroughly enjoyable set by Peers. The delivery is easy, the humour feels true, there’s even a cameo from TV’s Amanda Lamb. Bad gay? Good comic.
Until 29 August. Today, 10:30pm.
