Comedy Review: Radio Active

Even in its 80s heyday, Radio 4's Radio Active felt cosy and old-fashioned amidst the prevailing alternative comedy scene.

Star rating: **

Venue: Pleasance Courtyard (Venue 33)

By the time Chris Morris and Armando Iannucci unleashed the broadly similar On the Hour in 1991, it felt positively Neolithic.

So no wonder this pointless revival falls flat. Working from old scripts – there’s no new material – surviving cast members Angus Deayton, Helen Atkinson-Wood, Philip Pope and Michael Fenton Stevens sell these pedestrian gags like the pros they are. The only highlights are Pope’s musical parodies of Quo, Dylan and – inevitably – the Bee Gees.

Until 28 August. Today 4:20pm.
