Comedy review: Laura Lexx: Tyrannosaurus Lexx

Blithely secure in her destiny, recently married and troubled only by such worries as the percentage of the duvet she and her husband respectively have, the perky Laura Lexx doesn't seem to have much angst to process.

Sure, her relatives are pestering her about getting pregnant. But she has to contrive scenarios of her husband cheating on her, or overplay her cropped-haired, lesbian-like appearance for drama.

Which is fine, she’s a charming, personable comic with a solid set of routines and twinkling manner in relating them. But it’s clearly, perversely not enough for a stand-up of her talent and ambition.

A vacuuming epiphany suggests some Millennial frustration about her economic prospects and she’s admirably self-mocking about her altruism.

But it’s perhaps a bit unfortunate that what truly elevates her hour, and gives it a bit of grit in an otherwise smooth oyster, is the abuse she suffered when a video of her dispatching a heckler went viral.

Social media idiocy has essentially written several comedians’ shows in their entirety.

But it gives Lexx an opportunity to show real vulnerability, insecurity about her career and affirm her feminism. Just a touch of edge added to an otherwise undemanding, amusing hour.
