Comedy review: Larry Dean: Farcissist

A gay Glaswegian based in London, he’s neither camp nor an easy individual to place on the social scale, with parents from opposite ends of the class spectrum, a private education, some youthful misdemeanours and a role model in Elvis. Cheekily cocksure, he also manages a stutter.
Straddling worlds that have never been as distinct as convention would have you believe, he’s developed an endearingly cheeky personality for moving seamlessly between them, playing up his bampot or libertine sides when required, but generally just straightforwardly relating, an easy, enraging anecdotalist.

Hide AdHe has a few too many moments where he faux-corrects himself for my taste, creakily engineered, fluffed lines as setups for punchlines. But he consolidates his growing promise here with some warm, affecting tales about his family and a few others that gently push at the boundaries of mainstream taste – much less the details of his return to dating as the somewhat staggering disclosure of why he left his homeland.
