Caravan tour rolls into Edinburgh

CARAVAN, the quintessential precursors to the British prog rock movement, are currently midway through a very special UK tour that brings them to the Queen’s Hall this Sunday.

The tour finds Caravan celebrating the 40th anniversary of what many critics regard to be the ultimate prog album of all time, 1973’s For Girls Who Grow Plump In The Night.

Caravan, featuring original founding member and chief songwriter Pye Hastings (guitar, lead vocals,) and Geoffrey Richardson (viola, guitar, flute) will perform a number of songs from the critically acclaimed album as well as numbers from In The Land Of Grey And Pink and other songs spanning their long career.

Originally formed in Canterbury in 1968, Caravan produced their own brand of what the NME described as “superior pop music, full of taste, craftsmanship and hard work”.

Often quoted as being one of the most formidable acts to emerge from the 1960s progressive rock scene, they have since achieved cult status while maintaining a passionate, diehard following.

The current Caravan line-up features founding member Hastings and Richardson, who joined the band in 1972 and is completed by Jan Schelhaas on keyboards, Jim Leverton on bass and vocals, and Mark Walker on drums.
