Bonnie Prince Charlie's cooking pot set to go under hammer

A COOKING pot used by Bonnie Prince Charlie and works by Scottish Colourist artist Samuel Peploe are among the items under the hammer at Bonham's annual Scottish sale this year.

The cast iron pot - dating from the 18th century and believed to be linked to the Jacobite Pretender - is valued at between £15,000 to £20,000.

Also up for auction are a pair of flintlock belt pistols, once owned by 18th century diarist James Boswell, 9th Laird of Auchinleck. Boswell is perhaps most noted for his celebrated biography of close friend Dr Johnson, the author of the first dictionary.

Works by Scottish Post-Impressionist artist Samuel John Peploe - one of the four Scottish Colourists - will also go under the hammer at the annual sale in Edinburgh. His piece Daffodils in a Glass Bowl is estimated to fetch between £100,000 and £150,000.

The auction will take place on 12th and 13th April.
