Bafta Scotland-winning students work on big screen

Films by Bafta Scotland-winning students are among those being shown at a showcase of new talent at a city cinema.

Pirates of the Caribbean star Mackenzie Crook and a former David Bowie collaborator both feature in the work by Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) film and animation students.

The event gives graduating students the chance to display their work on the big screen in front of the public.

Tonight the work of ten animation students is to be shown at the Filmhouse cinema, including that of Bafta Scotland winner Ainslie Henderson.

His animation tells the tale of a performer crippled with anxiety and features the voice of Mackenzie Crook.

Also being screened is an animated music video by Anna Ginsburg, which was commissioned by Island Records for the Bombay Bicycle Club’s single How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep. She won the best overall Bafta Scotland new talent prize at this year’s award.

Jared Taylor, ECA programme director for animation, said: “The show this year will allow the public the opportunity to view the films of an outstanding group of animators. The work on screen is the product of four years developing their skills and refining their ideas here in Edinburgh.”

Tomorrow night, seven films produced by students will be screened.

Both showcases begin at 8.30pm at the Filmhouse., five of which will feature in the Edinburgh International Film Festival programme.
