Artist brings mountain weather to studio

FOR 12 days, starting next week, city dwellers will have the rare opportunity of experiencing the thrill – including the wind and driving rain – of standing atop a Scottish mountain, from the comfort of an artist’s studio.

Occasional Showers, an installation by Owen Ramsay at the Edinburgh College of Art degree show starting on 2 June, aims to replicate the joy and conditions mountaineers feel when reaching the peak of a mountain.

Ramsay, 22, who moved from his native West Yorkshire to indulge his passion for mountaineering in the Scottish Highlands, said he wanted to “bring the outdoors in” and let people share his fascination with weather.

The installation consists of a metal box with a 3D mountain landscape inside, which viewers look into before a timer blasts wind or water in their faces.
