Pink Roses, the only still life in the collection, went for £22,800, alongside views of the Isle of Arran and other scenes, which fetched a total of £106,800.

Auctioneer Nick Burns said yesterday that the pictures had been bought by the seller’s
family in the early 20th century. He said: “We were excited to get the chance to sell them.”

Milne, 1885-1957, was raised in Edinburgh.
