Andy Gray: Fans pay tribute to panto king by placing flowers and cards outside King's Theatre

Flowers and cards paying tribute to pantomime king and TV star Andy Gray, who recently passed away at the age of 61, have been placed outside the King’s Theatre in Edinburgh.

The Perth-based actor who was one of the stars of the Christmas panto at the King's Theatre in Edinburgh each year has been remembered by fans at the doors of the theatre where he played memorable roles such as Buttons from Cinderella.

Flowers including yellow roses and purple tulips decorated the entrance, with one card reading: “Thanks for the fun memories Andy and love and hugs (virtual) to Alan, Grant and all theatre staff at this sad time. God bless you xx”

Another read: “Thank you for all the laughs. Rest in peace Andy.”

The news comes as many fans reacted to the devastating news of the panto king’s passing on Monday with one social media user saying, “'Panto will never be the same again.”

61-year-old Andy Gray was much-loved in Edinburgh taking Scotland’s Capital on as his second home having studied drama at Queen Margaret College and then going on to shine in many pantos and shows across Edinburgh venues such as the King’s and the Royal Lyceum.

He also attracted a huge crowd at Edinburgh’s Fringe with thanks to his theatre double act with panto co-star Grant Stott.

Originally starting his acting career at Perth Theatre in the late 1970s, Gray shot to fame in the 1980s with the BBC Scotland sitcom City Lights.

The Scottish entertainer also starred in famous shows such as Naked Video and River City.
