Summer travel: A wealth of family wonders

The Solway Coast has long been admired by countless numbers converted by its charms, including stunning sunsets and seldom matched seaside vistas. Indeed, it is a recognised Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretching from Rockliffe in the north to Maryport in the south.

The small Victorian town of Silloth, backed by the Lake District hills, sits in the middle and is a popular holiday destination, thanks to its peaceful atmosphere and seaside activities.

It is also home to Stanwix Park, which was recently awarded the coveted title of AA Holiday Centre of the Year – and the good news is that it is currently offering summer breaks for three or four nights in self-catering accommodation from just £321.

Stanwix Park has a variety of pet-friendly apartments that sleep between four and six, and caravans that can accommodate up to eight.

The offer includes unlimited use of the attraction’s recently refurbished leisure centre, which features a slide, water jets and waterfall. Also, for those seeking something more relaxing, there is a new sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and heated loungers.

Children can enjoy a range of daytime activities, including laser tag, soft archery, Brad’s Animal Encounters, pool parties and more.

JJ’s Bowl is a ten-pin bowling experience that combines the latest technology with exciting interactive graphics and animations. It has a soft play area for those under six, as well as a snooker room for older guests.

For refreshments during the day, the Cabin Bar is a new outdoor facility serving a range of draught beers, spirits, hot drinks and pub snacks.

In the evening, the whole family can enjoy entertainment including music, dancing and magic shows in the Sunset Inn, while adults only can head to the Dunes Cabaret Bar for games of cash bingo, quizzes and comedy.

The family-run centre has been popular among holidaymakers since the 1940s and prides itself on great service and top-quality facilities.

“One guest recently said upon check-in, ‘We are home’,” says Sophie Leslie, the park’s advertising manager.

“That is what makes us different from everywhere else. We are a small, family-run park and that just shows right the way through in everything we do, from the friendly service to the relaxed vibe.”

Also available to book now are Stanwix Park’s camping pods, which can sleep up to four people. These include a private veranda, plug sockets, electric heaters, and the free use of a barbecue area.
