What is Route YC

Route YC is a membership organisation which showcases six main destinations along the Yorkshire coast – from Spurn Point to the coves of Whitby, the golden sandy beaches of Hornsea and Bridlington and everything in between, including Scarborough, Filey and Witernsea.

From driving and sailing to bikes, hikes, winter walks and wildlife-spotting, the team at Route YC is encouraging visitors to create their own outdoor adventure around the Yorkshire coast and countryside, as well as spend more time getting off the beaten track to discover what the region has to offer.

There’s information on eco-friendly tourism (many of the destinations are easily accessible by train or bus) and the area is renowned for hiking and cycling. Food is a huge part of this area – with the standards high, particularly for seafood. Whitby is famous for its crab and lobster but the coastal waters here provide a mouth-watering selection of fish and shellfish, whilst the lush countryside produces superb local meats, cheeses and of course wonderful Yorkshire baking!

Route YC works with hundreds of leisure and hospitality business members, local community groups and industry partners, to help you find just the right accommodation and activities for you and your family.

Kerry Carruthers, CEO for Route YC, said: “There’s so much for visitors to see and do around Route YC during the autumn and winter months, so we’re already gearing up to showcase the best accommodation, visitor attractions outdoor activities and events on offer from October to March.”

Tom Campbell, the founder and creator of the world-famous North Coast 500, helped develop the route. Tom said: “Route YC is establishing itself as one of the UK’s leading touring routes. It’s a great way to explore the region throughout the year, where you get to create your own amazing adventure by bike, motorbike, car, motorhome and by exploring the many paths on foot. “
