Youth Olympics: Kieran Martin takes windsurfing bronze

Kieran Martin ensured Great Britain's Youth Olympics ended on a high note with a ninth medal as the Stoke-on-Trent youngster won windsurfing bronze in the boys' techno 293 on day 11 in Singapore.

Martin entered the medal race at the National Sailing Centre third overall following the previous ten contests, and consolidated that position with his third win to finish one point behind Hong Kong's Michael Cheng, who claimed silver, while Israel's Mayan Rafic took gold.

"It's fantastic, I've won a bronze medal. It feels amazing," Martin said.

"I had a good start and, after that, I just tried to stay ahead, not make any stupid mistakes and it paid off. It was amazing.

"I came fourth in the world championships so I just tried and improve on that. I think a medal was realistic. It's been amazing; the memories will last forever."

Jade Rogers finished 11th in the girls' event as Thai Siripon Kaewduang-Ngam won gold.

Andrew Martin saw his challenge for gold in the men's K1 canoe slalom end at the quarter-final stage when he lost to eventual gold medallist Simon Brus from Slovenia.

But he was upbeat despite his exit: "Like my coach said: 'How many people can say they got to the last eight in the Olympics?'"

Britain ended the inaugural Youth Olympics with nine medals - three golds, one silver and five bronze - while a further two golds, one silver and one bronze were won in mixed-team events.
