Mike Ross, Haymarket: "We were five minutes from European football and we blew it. The defending at times in the second half was shocking and cowardly and I think that Hughes has now shown he can't produce a derby-winning team. Action needs to be taken. It's not unlike the situation with Mixu last season. Petrie has got to get advertising and please, not for another former player."

Alan Ross, Ravelston: "All the players seemed to disintegrate when we lost the first goal. I can't believe we lost that game after dominating it so much."

Gavin McDowell, Dean Village: "I'm sorry to say that some of these players deserve to be booted out of the football club. They gave up and gifted the game to that lot again. Every time we play them we gift them the points."

Donald Hughes, Leith: "We played a lot of good stuff but we had no bottle. Hughes keeps bringing this up in interviews and now I believe him. Saturday was embarrassing after we lost the first goal – the whole team's heads just seemed to drop. We have no leader, no bottle and that is no use in this league."

Bob McNeil, Musselburgh: "A lot of fans are fed up with Hughes and his team. We were so close at the turn of the year and now look at that performance. It should cost him his job."

Derek Allen, Liberton: "I don't know how we lost the game. We got a soft penalty but proceeded to lose the game. I though their second goal was offside but when we defended like that we don't deserve to win games."

Ian Smith Gracemount: "We didn't kill them off when we had the chance and paid for it big time. Once again we let them win when we should have had the game sewn up long before the end."

Liam Bryce, Leith: "There was no real threat from them until we threw in the towel. It happens all the time against them, I can't believe we keep giving them games. Don't the players care? If Hughes can't get the players up for this, he should be sacked."

Ian Quinn, Newhaven: "The team just couldn't cope when we lost the goal and again we gifted them the game. Shocking defending and Hughes must take a lot of the blame for not tightening the defence up."

Pat Cooper, Trinity: "Why were we going for the win when a draw gives us Europe? Does Hughes not think of that? He has shown he hasn't got a clue how to manage a football team tactically or deal with any personality within the club."

Ryan Fraser, Craigleith: "Players had the game won and then gave it away by schoolboy defending. I can't believe we again gifted them the points."

Keith Dunn. Leith: "I can't see how we lost this game as we had so much of the ball. They are rotten, but if we can't defend against such a poor team as Hearts we should just give up now."

Kevin McDougal, Leith: "Hughes, just go now as that was a joke. Can he not make substitutions that will help us win games?"

Alan Milne, Leith: "Once again we gave them the game by kamikaze defending. The best players for us were Rankin and Hogg but I still can't believe the defending at the end."
