Danny Cordiner, Edinburgh: "Last night was completely unacceptable. The match was a prime example of how this season has played out for Hibs, an excellent start and, when we're so far ahead, we somehow manage to throw the whole lot away. Do the decent thing and leave now John."

David Smith, Howdenhall: "I attended this game against my preconceptions due to the offer of a lift and cheap entrance, and I am glad I witnessed a truly amazing game with a goal (the 12th) anyone would be lucky to witness first hand once in a lifetime. The good points were Nish starting like a train, flowing moves in the first half, six goals and a hat-trick away from home. The bad points were the same starting XI, a lack of fitness, a lack of presence, Yogi failing to close a game out tactically again and losing six goals.

"Ma-Kalambay has to be restored even for Tannadice as there is no presence in the box when any ball comes into he area. Hughes must set his stall out to kill the momentum and steal a win whilst ensuring a point is secured as Motherwell will suffer at the Ibrox league flag party."

Brendan Watson, Dunbar: "I've seen Hibs chuck away some leads but that was just unreal. I've backed Yogi from day one but last night was the last straw for me, he should do the honourable thing and resign! Only Hibs can chuck away a four-goal lead with 20 minutes to go. Unbelievable!"

Bill Howie, Musselburgh: "The 90 minutes summed up Hibs' season, brilliant one minute and dire the next. There can't be many other club's supporters who have suffered as much heartache over the years as Hibs fans have, but as ever, we'll keep coming back for more punishment. On the positive side I think a point at Tannadice on Sunday will be enough to see us finish fourth, but if we do, this should be seen as an underachievement as we have, in Deek and Stokes, the best forwards in the SPL."

Josh McGinn, Tranent: "That was just unbelievable. When you're 6-2 up you can't lose a game like that.

"I say lose because right now it feels more like a defeat. It feels like it did after we drew 4-4 at Tynecastle.

"In my opinion we were quite creative up front, but for whatever reason Yogi then brought on McBride in the midfield and we lost three goals. Benji came on with ten minutes left but by then it was too late to change it back. Once Yogi did change it we saw a change to the high ball to Nish and Motherwell were pressuring us. I don't know what Smith was doing and it could only happen to Hibs.

"The main man last night was Stokes – he chased every single ball. The idea of Riordan coming off was to slow down Motherwell but, if Hughes had kept it the way it was, Benji could perhaps have been a straight swap for Riordan."

Gerard O'Donnell, New Town: "Last night was a night that we saw the best of Hibs and the worst. A team that scores six goals and loses six is not what we expect from Hibs. To lose four goals when you are 6-2 up is not acceptable.

"It could have seen Hibs getting the fourth place and European football. I wonder if there are Hibs players who want the chance to play in Europe? The interview that Nish gave was a very honest and frank one and I hope that Nish is playing at Hibs next year as he had a good game but football is a team game and that good performance was not enough for Hibs to get the three points.

"If I was the manager I would be saying to the team that you clearly need lots of training and when you have learned to defend a four-goal advantage you will get a day off. If it was safe I would have made the players and management walk home from Motherwell and be in early for training. I would show them the game at training and give the players a chance to defend. I would then show them how this can be prevented from happening in the future."

Sean Rafferty, Carrick Knowe: "Nish played very well, the best I have seen from him in a Hibs jersey. Our defence was shambolic, and we couldn't handle cross balls. Every time a high ball came over we couldn't handle it at all. We need a good experienced defender as it was clear that no-one was standing out at the back. Riordan had a good game as well, at least he made the effort."

Craig Hamilton, Edinburgh: "Yogi has to go now, he has embarrassed the fans long enough and after blowing a four-goal lead against Motherwell – this is the final straw! There is no excuse."

Renato Margiotta, Edinburgh: "The most embarrassing result anywhere in Europe this season. At 6-2 you didn't feel safe, says it all. The stadium will be empty next season unless Yogi and half that team leave this summer, an utter, utter disgrace."

William Reid, Musselburgh: "It's been said for a number of weeks about the lack of heart in that team. It was never more apparent than last night. So very, very disappointing, there appeared to be an inevitability about it all, I'm just surprised we didn't lose! A shocker, a real shocker!"

Peter Brown, Restalrig: "I thought Hughes made an error in replacing Riordan with McBride – he never kicked a ball. Hogg had an absolute nightmare along with Smith. We were over-run for the last 35 minutes and it was only a matter of time before Motherwell scored."
