Kenny Ferguson, Fairmilehead: "Too many young players in the side. We were overrun in the midfield and we found it tough. A bad defeat for us."

Richard Hardie, Dalkeith: "I thought the team did very well under really difficult circumstances. It's disappointing to lose but, with 15 players missing, what do you expect?"

Graeme Renfield, Balgreen: "I thought that we were the better side in the first half but we were poor after the break. Paul Mulrooney was the man of the match."

Alan Stephen, Gorgie: "I am disappointed that we couldn't hold on for a draw. It was a piece of sloppy defending and such a cheap goal to lose. It's important that we bounce back next week."

Gordon Mitchell, Newington: "We put United under pressure early on but we couldn't keep it going. Losing a goal so late on was a sickener. I thought that we deserved a point."

Phil Callis, Sighthill: "I don't think that we were physically imposing enough to cope with United. Webster and Kenneth strolled through the game for United."

Derek Smith, Sighthill: "A disappointing second-half performance from Hearts cost us what would have been a good point. Some of our passing was really poor. Not good enough."

John Jenkins, Edinburgh: "We played with plenty of enthusiasm but we were overwhelmed in the midfield. I think it was a case of one injury problem too many here."

Gary Fenton, Merchiston: "It was men against boys – literally. It's easy to make excuses but there are guys playing who wouldn't normally be out there and we are down to the bare bones. Our injury list is horrific."

Stevie Melville, Pencaitland: "We made a great start and, if we had scored during that early spell of pressure, it might have been a different story. We deserved a point though."

Martin Black, Granton: "Considering the injury problems that we have, I think it was a decent effort. If we can keep up that workrate, we will definitely get into the top six."

Car, Elphinstone: "What a dreadful second half from Hearts. Too many injuries and too many lazy players. I hope Christian Nade goes at the end of the season. He never looks like he will score and is lazy. Suso is a disappointment – I expected more from him. A draw would have be a fair result but we must win on Saturday."

Wee Keith, Albion Terrace: "We controlled 75 per cent of the game and yet we lost. They had a couple of shots at goal but nothing to bother us. We just seemed to take our foot off the pedal and they hit us. I don't think Jim Jefferies will give them too much of a hard time because the team did play well."
