Young Celtic stars triumph as Preston Athletic's Scott savours his testimonial

CRAIG SCOTT, Preston Athletic's long serving central defender, was honoured in a testimonial Match last night against a young Celtic XI who triumphed 3-2 in an entertaining and competitive game.

Scott, who has served Preston for ten years and is a Celtic fan, was delighted with the occasion, saying: "I really appreciate Celtic coming to play in this match because it has been a running joke for about four or five years that they had been invited to my testimonial."

The Celtic youngsters, all aged 18 and under, were rampant in the opening minutes and after Ian McCaldon had saved a Greig Spence shot the same player did score with a close-range shot after only four minutes.

Shortly afterwards a corner from John Herron was headed into the Preston net by Curtis Jones before home side steadied themselves. Stuart Miller brought out a good save from goalkeeper Robbie Thompson then Ritchie McCaul scored his first goal for Preston.

Midway through the second half Preston equalised when a long throw-in from Scott found Lindsay Scott and his header bounced into the net. In the closing stages Celtic won the game when Marcus Fraser netted.
