Yani Tseng is No 1 after victory in Australia

Yani Tseng ascended to No 1 in the world as she finished with final round of four-under par 68 to win the ANZ RACV Ladies Masters yesterday.

The 22-year-old finished 24-under overall, four shots clear of Australian Nikki Campbell and American Stacy Lewis. Campbell used a closing round of 64 to shoot up the leaderboard on the final day.

Tseng's effort sees her overhaul Korean Jiyai Shin at the top of the world standings as she followed up her victory at the Australian Open last week. Tseng had set number one as her target this season, but admitted she had expected a longer wait.

"It is so soon," said Tseng. "I wasn't expecting it as quickly as this. I still have another ten months to go. I need to be very patient and keep working hard. I still have lots of things to learn, too.

"I'm very appreciative of the opportunity to play in this tournament since I was an amateur," added Tseng, who has competed in this tournament since the age of 16.
