Yanders return spurs Rocks on to victory

BASKETBALL: Glasgow Rocks captain Rob Yanders made a surprise but welcome return from injury last night to help the Kelvin Hall outfit thrash struggling Plymouth 106-82 and reclaim third place in the BBL.

After returning to training last week, the American – who has been out for the past month with a shoulder injury that looked at one stage as though it might end his season – failed to score but pulled the strings as the Scots bounced back to top form.

Mike Copeland hit 13 of his 27 points in the first period as the Rocks grabbed a 32-21 lead which they never lost.

With Scotland captain Gareth Murray also adding 27 points, the hosts left Plymouth's play-off hopes hanging by a thread with a storming final-quarter flurry.

Elsewhere, Falkirk Fury upset holders Edinburgh Kings to lift the Scottish Cup with a shock 82-66 win in the final.

Glasgow Rocks completed the women's double by beating rivals Edinburgh 76-61 in their Scottish Cup final.
