Writers ink Weir record

DAVID WEIR has become the oldest ever winner of the Scottish Football Writers Association Player of the Year Award.

The evergreen Rangers captain, who turns 40 on Monday, will pick up the award on Sunday, hours after lifting the Clydesdale Bank Premier League trophy.

Weir is out of contract this summer does not know whether he will still be at Ibrox next season.

"I'm keen to play on and enjoy it," he said. "But it would have to be right for me and not just for the sake of it. Until something is put in front of me, I can't give a definitive answer."

The former Falkirk and Hearts defender joined Rangers initially on a six-month deal in January 2007, signing from Everton.
